DANIELLE & NIGEL: REAL BRIDE STORY

I married my hubby Nigel at the Abbey House Hotel.

Our ceremony is at the Great Hall. We had desired to have the ceremony at Furness Abbey ruins nearby but we're glad we didn't go ahead and take the risk since it rained!

How have you personalized your wedding reception?

We attempted to keep things simple, classic, and stylish because both of us like that type of style. We decided on sage green and blush pink color palette because we felt it matched the venue perfectly, and the colors contrasted nicely. I also picked sage bridesmaid dresses for my bridesmaids since it is a significant versatile color plus they all have completely different complexions. I coupled these with pale pink roses and baby's breath. We then were built with a "naked cake" with pale pink roses to coordinate using the bridesmaids and decorated the tables with rose bushes to complement. Choosing the music was difficult as both of us like completely different music, so for that ceremony, we picked two songs each for that string quartet to experience. We spent a couple of days hand-making our invites (Nige did the eliminating and I did anything else!). I am from Zimbabwe and Nige comes from Lancaster and we desired to personalize the tables by naming them following a mixture of African and English lakes to tie both heritage in.

Before moving in, I knew I wanted something fairly simple and not too detailed, but I was attempting to keep an open mind concerning the fit because I didn't understand what would suit me. I took my mum and my sister dress shopping. We visited three shops and I hadn't found anything before the third one. I had tried on a lot of "nice" dresses, but none that actually felt much like me. When I tried on my small FeelTimes dress, I instantly felt comfortable inside it and liked how I looked inside it. I think everybody else noticed exactly the same thing because they said my body system language changed the moment I use it. Having tried on the few, and worrying I wouldn't suit any dresses, I felt so relieved that the dress that I loved did actually exist!

Don't let anyone pressure you into having a wedding day made to keep them happy and never you. Spend just as much time together with your husband as possible on the day, as it goes so quickly.
