D2R Ladder Items: Resurrected players have already been wasting endgame items because of a typo from developed Blizzard inside the official patch notes.

In Diablo 2, runes are one socket-able item you can use to increase your gear within the endgame with some other bonuses. But if you install runes in a particular order over a particular item, you have a unique little bit of gear termed a Runeword. Those items are some of the most effective gear inside the game, however, they are fiddly - if someone makes a mistake slotting the runes in your gear, you should destroy all of them to make it right.

New Runewords tend to be added in patches, and Blizzard spells the rune order necessary to activate these new items. But from the Season 3 update, one Runeword within the patch notes showed the incorrect rune order, and also this typo has experienced players wasting their runes in search of an item that's ultimately useless.

It seems the situation stems from some changes made contained in the PTR testing cycle. The Mosaic Runeword originally needed a Mal+Gul+Thul combo, but players weren't crazy about the cold damage supplied by Thul. So Mosaic became Mal+Gul+Amn, with Amn providing life steal instead.

Based on community discussion(opens in new tab), it appears the patch notes(opens in new tab) were originally published with all the correct Mal+Gul+Amn combo, but sometimes, a revision turned it returning to Mal+Gul+Thul. They've now been corrected again, even so, the end result is there was with regards to a day where Blizzard's mistake was happily encouraging players to waste their runes over a non-existent Runeword.
