Michelle Kahl and Pete Mscichowski’s unique big day was greater than a decade within the making. They met in Chicago last year during their first semester of school. “In some methods, I knew in the first moment I met Michelle that there was something about her,” Pete remembers. Still though, when he asked her out, it wasn’t on the date, per se, but instead to “spend a few hours as tourists.” “We walked through Millennium Park, took selfies at The Bean, and rode the Navy Pier Ferris wheel. We shared childhood stories in the end watched Buckingham Fountain fall and rise over and over,” Michelle recalls. Though Pete remembers holding on to the job their method to dinner in the iconic Rosebud Steakhouse, “It wasn’t until he grabbed the balance that I finally realized it had been our first date,” Michelle admits.

Their relationship took a turn within the summer of 2015, on the last day of the family vacation in Charleston, South Carolina. Everyone else choose to go home, but Pete and Michelle were built with a later flight. They spent their day wandering the historic city. “I keep in mind that afternoon so clearly because it had been the first time I felt towards the core that Pete was family, he was my partner for a lifetime, and I couldn’t imagine being with other people,” Michelle says.

In 2019, after ten years together, it had been time to accept the next step. “Pete proposed at sunset in Victoria Peak Garden in Hong Kong,” Michelle says. “It was the tail-end of our eight-week trip through Southeast Asia. We’d selected a simple hammered-gold band together in the John Hardy workshop in Jimbaran, Bali, per week prior. We celebrated by having an intimate dinner at Mott 32 and after with drinks at The Peninsula Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui.”

A wedding never was a given for Michelle, though.
